Air Ambulance Awards Shortlist Announced
With just over two weeks to go until the deadline for entries, the Association of Air Ambulances (AAA) is calling on the air ambulance community across the UK to nominate an individual or team for this year’s Air Ambulance Awards of Excellence. These prestigious, independent awards honour the exceptional contributions of staff and volunteers in the UK air ambulance community.
“With the holiday period upon us, now is a good time to be getting those award entries in before everyone disappears on their travels,” said Paula Martin, Chair of the AAA. “There’s normally a flurry of entries on deadline day, the 1st of September, but I’d encourage everyone in the air ambulance and ambulance services communities to get their thinking caps on now. Who in your organisation deserves recognition this year?”
This will be the second year for the newest category: Air Operations Support Staff Member of the Year. This category saw some excellent entries in its first year and Award organisers are hoping for similar this year. “As well as anticipating nominations of engineers, fire officers, back office staff and other non-flying personnel like last year, we’d really like to see dispatchers and HEMS desks recognised for the invaluable part they play in tasking air ambulances” said Graham Chalk, Director of the AAA. “They play such a critical but understated role and this is the perfect opportunity to recognise them.”
The organisers of the Awards are calling on all air ambulance and ambulance services to consider making a nomination. While the range of organisations nominating continues to grow each year, there remain some outstanding organisations out there who are yet to make a nomination for the Awards. AAA members and non-members alike are encouraged to nominate their exceptional individuals and teams so they can receive the recognition they deserve.
The Awards are both straightforward and free to enter in order to encourage all organisations to nominate.
The Air Ambulance Awards of Excellence are now in their sixth year and have quickly become a prestigious event for the pre-hospital care sector. Last year saw over 300 people watch BBC News’s Sophie Long and Helicopter Heroes presenter Rav Wilding hand over 11 Awards to some outstanding individuals and teams. The Gala Awards dinner will again be held at the Millennium Chelsea Harbour Hotel, and will take place on Monday 12 November 2018.
Nominations are now open to the entire sector and are judged by an independent panel of experts, chaired by Jim Fitzpatrick MP. Nominations are now sought in the following categories:
- Air Ambulance Campaign of the Year Award
- Air Ambulance Doctor of the Year
- Air Ambulance Innovation of the Year Award
- Air Ambulance Paramedic of the Year
- Air Ambulance Pilot of the Year
- Air Operations Support Staff Member of the Year
- Charity Staff Member of the Year
- Charity Volunteer of the Year Award
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Outstanding Young Person Award
- Special Incident Award
The closing date for nominations is 1 September 2018. For more information or to make a nomination, go to https://associationofairambulances.co.uk/awards/about-the-awards/.
